RINGING THE CHANGES

An account of the dismantling, retuning and re-hanging of Brasted's

Church bells.

On Thursday 2nd June 2005 eight bells rang out over Brasted for the first time - the result of a lot of hard work by a lot of people not least volunteers from the Kent County Association of Bell Ringers. The six bells of Brasted village church had become difficult to handle and it was decided to rehang the bells with modern fittings whilst retaining the 16th century frame. But this was opportunity to complete the octave and go for a ring of eight. Funds were raised and two new bells were cast at Whitechapel Bell Foundry. Additional steel frame was installed in the tower and the two new bells hung along with the newly retuned Gillet and Bland bells.

And much of this fascinating work has been captured on this short dvd - the skilled work in taking down the bells, the casting of Brasted's two new bells, the rehanging of the bells and 'ringing the changes' by Brasted's bell ringers.
